The Honourable Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to regional cooperation and collective security in the fight against terrorism and cross-border crimes within the Lake Chad Basin.

General Musa made the declaration during the recent meeting of Ministers of Defence of Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs) of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) under the Lake Chad Basin Commission held in N'Djamena.

The high-level security meeting brought together Defence Ministers and representatives from member countries including Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon and Benin, alongside senior military commanders, intelligence chiefs and key stakeholders involved in regional counterterrorism operations.

The gathering served as a strategic platform to assess ongoing military operations and reinforce collective efforts aimed at combating terrorism, insurgency and other trans-border security threats affecting the Lake Chad region.

During the meeting, the Ministers reviewed reports presented by Chiefs of Defence Staff as well as heads of intelligence and security agencies, focusing on the operational effectiveness of the Multinational Joint Task Force and emerging security concerns within the region.

Deliberations during the closed-door session also centred on critical operational challenges, including troop deployment, funding limitations and the evolving tactics of terrorist groups operating around the Lake Chad Basin.

General Musa commended the government and people of Chad for hosting the meeting and acknowledged the country’s continued leadership and commitment within the MNJTF framework.

The participating Defence Ministers equally expressed appreciation to the President of Chad and Chairman of the LCBC Summit for his unwavering support toward advancing peace, stability and regional security cooperation among member states.

The meeting underscored the resolve of regional partners to sustain coordinated military operations and intelligence-sharing mechanisms in order to degrade terrorist networks and restore lasting peace across the Lake Chad Basin.
