The Honourable Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, has been conferred with an Honorary Fellowship by the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors in recognition of his outstanding leadership, dedicated service, and contributions to national security.
The prestigious honour was presented during a ceremony held on May 4, 2026, at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters, Ship House, in Abuja.
According to the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), the fellowship was initially scheduled for December 2025 but was brought forward due to pressing official engagements and the need to promptly recognise General Musa’s exceptional record of service and performance.
The institution described the award as historic, noting that it is only the second time such a distinguished honour has been conferred in the history of the organisation, underscoring the extraordinary nature of the recognition.
“This marks the second time in the history of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors that such a distinguished honour has been awarded,” the institute stated.
The Ministry of Defence, in its reaction, described the fellowship as a reflection of General Musa’s unwavering commitment, professionalism, and strategic leadership in advancing national security and protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
The Ministry also acknowledged the collective efforts of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in promoting peace, stability, and national development across the country.
Furthermore, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with professional institutions such as the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, recognising their critical contributions to national growth and development.
The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors is one of Nigeria’s oldest professional organisations, tracing its roots to 1934 when it was founded as the Licensed Surveyors Association under the leadership of nationalist Herbert Heelas Macaulay. The body later became the Land Surveyors Association of Nigeria in 1960 before evolving into its current structure and identity.
