The Delta State Police Command says its Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) has busted a suspected drug distribution network in Owa-Abbi, Ukwani Local Government Area of the state.
The operation, conducted on Saturday, August 8, 2026, followed what the Command described as credible and actionable intelligence.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, operatives of the VCRU raided a suspected criminal hideout where they arrested a 56-year-old man, identified as Lucky Oyiboka.
A search of the premises led to the recovery of 21 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
Preliminary investigations, according to the Police, indicate that Oyiboka is allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs.
The Command said investigations have been intensified to establish the extent of the suspected drug network and identify other persons connected to the operation.
The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained operations against criminal networks and the proliferation of illicit drugs in the state.
The Police also appealed to members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information, assuring that the identities of informants would be kept confidential.
