DHQ Mourns Fallen Soldier ‘Corporal Abubakar Sadiq’, Urges Public Support and Responsible Reporting

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, has commended the dedication and professionalism of troops across various operational theatres, while mourning the loss of a soldier killed in action.


In a statement issued on Friday by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) expressed profound sorrow over the death of Corporal Abubakar Sadiq, who was killed by Boko Haram terrorists.


The statement described the late soldier as courageous and devoted, noting that his sacrifice reflects the finest ideals of the military profession.


“The AFN expresses profound sorrow over the tragic loss of Corporal Abubakar Sadiq. His courage, resilience, and devotion to duty embody the finest ideals of the Armed Forces. Though taken in such painful circumstances, his sacrifice will forever be honoured and remembered,” the statement read.


The Chief of Defence Staff extended condolences to the family, colleagues, and loved ones of the deceased, urging them to find strength in his legacy of service and bravery.


Troops were also charged to sustain the current operational momentum with heightened vigilance and strict adherence to the Laws of Armed Conflict and Rules of Engagement, while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism.


The military further called on the media to promote responsible, factual, and patriotic reporting that supports national security efforts and counters misinformation.


It also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence, emphasizing that collective efforts remain critical to achieving a safer and more secure Nigeria.


The Armed Forces reaffirmed its commitment to defending the nation’s territorial integrity and ensuring lasting peace across the country.
