The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents after the Council’s meeting on Wednesday. He said the latest approval followed an earlier FEC decision to provide 2,056 housing units for the Armed Forces, bringing the total number of approved units to 2,656 out of the 10,000 housing units targeted by the Federal Government over five years.
Rabe described decent accommodation as a critical component of military welfare, stressing that the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to meeting its housing obligations while prioritising the needs of servicemen and women.
The minister explained that some estates previously constructed for military personnel had been converted into barracks because of the facilities incorporated into them. He added that the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development remains responsible for delivering the government’s five-year programme to construct 10,000 housing units, with the latest approval forming part of the broader initiative to provide better accommodation for members of the Armed Forces.
