The Nigeria Police Force has intensified engagement with election observers and other stakeholders ahead of the Osun State governorship election, as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful, secure and credible electoral process.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu, on Friday held an interactive session with election observers from the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), led by its National Chairman, Alhaji Mogaji Olaniyan.
The meeting focused on security arrangements for the election, information sharing and stronger cooperation between the police, community stakeholders and election observers.
CSP Iniedu reaffirmed the police commitment to a professional, impartial and people-oriented approach to election security. He also stressed the importance of community engagement in identifying and addressing potential security threats.
The PCRC delegation highlighted the importance of independent observation and community participation in promoting peaceful voting and protecting voters, electoral officials, observers and other stakeholders from intimidation or disruption.
The police also urged citizens to comply with electoral laws and security directives, while encouraging observers to remain objective and report incidents through appropriate channels.
The Force assured stakeholders that adequate security measures had been put in place to protect lives and property, safeguard the electoral process and create a safe environment for citizens to exercise their democratic rights.
The engagement, according to the police, further underscored the importance of sustained collaboration with the PCRC, civil society organisations and other stakeholders before, during and after the election.
