The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has commended the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) for its contributions to the Safe Schools Initiative and community policing across the country.

Disu gave the commendation in Abuja after a meeting with the leadership of the PCRC, where he acknowledged the organisation’s sustained support for efforts to protect pupils and strengthen security at the grassroots.

The IGP particularly highlighted the PCRC’s involvement in traffic control around schools, engagement with teachers and students, and provision of educational materials for pupils.

He described members of the committee as “critical foot soldiers” in the implementation of community policing, noting that they have continued to commit their time and resources while supporting the police with vital information and community engagement.

The Safe Schools Initiative seeks to protect students, teachers and school facilities from violence, attacks and abductions through improved security, community participation and collaboration among relevant agencies.

Disu stressed that stronger partnerships between law enforcement agencies, local communities and grassroots organisations remain crucial to promoting public safety, preventing crime and building safer communities.

He urged continued cooperation between the police and community-based organisations to strengthen security efforts and ensure a safer environment for children to learn and thrive.
