The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended warm congratulations to the Government and people of the Republic of India on the occasion of the country’s 77th Republic Day.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, congratulated India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, and described the anniversary as a significant milestone in India’s national history.
According to the statement, India’s Republic Day commemorates the adoption of its Constitution and symbolises the country’s enduring commitment to democracy, the rule of law, pluralism, and inclusive governance.
The Ministry noted that over the past seven decades, India has emerged as a prominent global actor, recognised for its strong democratic institutions, technological advancement, economic growth, and contributions to international peace and development.
Nigeria acknowledged India as a key partner in advancing South–South cooperation, multilateralism, and the collective aspirations of the Global South. The statement further commended India’s consistent engagement in development partnerships, capacity building, and people-centred cooperation across Africa and other regions.
Both countries were described as enjoying long-standing and cordial bilateral relations, anchored on shared values and mutual respect, with expanding cooperation in trade and investment, defence and security, science and technology, healthcare, education, and energy.
The Ministry also highlighted the close collaboration between Nigeria and India within multilateral platforms, including the United Nations, in pursuit of peace, sustainable development, and a more equitable global order.
On the occasion of the anniversary, Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with India and deepening strategic cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations.
The statement concluded with Nigeria conveying its sincere goodwill to the Government and people of India, while wishing the country continued peace, progress, and prosperity.
