Troops of 27 Task Force Brigade, 159 Battalion, Sector II Special Boat Force, and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force have conducted an offensive operation against suspected ISWAP/JAS terrorists in Yunusari Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Security sources informed that the joint operation was carried out at about 9:00 a.m. on April 28 along the Mar–Subdu–Yaro Lawanti and Yaro Shuwari axis.
The sources said troops made contact with the terrorists at Malam Shiri village, engaging them in a fierce exchange of fire that resulted in the neutralisation of six insurgents, while others fled with gunshot wounds.
According to the sources, troops recovered significant quantities of weapons and ammunition from the scene, including five AK-47 rifles, one PKT machine gun, one grenade, five magazines, two motorcycles, a Baofeng communication radio, 463 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm belted ammunition, 110 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm special ammunition, three bandoliers, and N40,000 in cash.
They added that materials suspected to be used for improvised explosive device (IED) fabrication were also recovered at the scene.
They said troops have continued exploitation operations in the general area to deny the terrorists freedom of movement.
