The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing offensive against cultism, violent crime, and illegal firearms across the State. In two coordinated operations carried out in Agbor and Warri, operatives arrested suspected cultists and recovered locally fabricated weapons, mobile devices, and an abandoned tricycle.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement released on Tuesday, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and dismantling criminal networks.
On 8 November 2025, at about 5:35 p.m., the Command received credible intelligence indicating that suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity were converging at Ojeifo Street by Iduwe, Agbor.
Responding swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Michael Obekpa, deployed patrol teams in collaboration with the Civilian Anti-Cult Unit. The operatives stormed the area and successfully arrested two suspected cultists identified as Agu Nnamdi of Ohumere Quarters, Agbor, and Promise Banco of Iduwe by Ojeifo Street, Agbor-Obi.
During the operation, the suspects attempted to hide a locally fabricated pistol in a black nylon bag, but the officers uncovered the weapon. Both men are in custody as investigations continue, while efforts are underway to track down other fleeing gang members.
In another incident on 16 November 2025, at about 9:30 a.m., surveillance operatives from ‘B’ Division, Warri, led by CSP Josephine Ekebuike, were on patrol along Arubi Street, off DECO Road, when they spotted a tricycle carrying two passengers driving recklessly against traffic.
The suspicious movement prompted officers to give chase. The pursuit led into First Marine Quarters, where the rider and passengers abandoned the tricycle and fled through nearby streets.
A search of the abandoned tricycle yielded two locally fabricated double-barrel guns, nine assorted mobile phones, four power banks, and a screwdriver. The scene was secured, and intensified stop-and-search operations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism. He reiterated the Command’s unwavering resolve to clamp down on cult groups, illegal arms, and other criminal activities threatening public peace.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to the Police, assuring that all tips will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to creating a secure environment where law-abiding citizens can go about their daily activities without fear.
