One Kidnapped Schoolgirl Escapes After Abduction of 25 Students in Kebbi State

One of the 25 schoolgirls abducted from a boarding school in northwestern Nigeria’s Kebbi State has escaped from captivity and returned home, the school principal confirmed on Tuesday.

The abductions occurred when armed men stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, before dawn on Monday (17 November). The attackers killed a staff member during the raid and fled with the students into nearby forests.

According to the school’s principal, Musa Rabi Magaji, one of the abducted girls managed to flee from the kidnappers and found her way home late on Monday — just hours after the mass abduction. Her return has offered a glimmer of hope to families anxiously awaiting news of their children.

Magaji also disclosed that another student, who was not among the 25 officially listed as abducted, managed to escape in the immediate aftermath of the attack.

Security forces have since intensified search-and-rescue operations across the region, amid growing concern over the resurgence of school kidnappings that have plagued northwestern Nigeria in recent years.
