A suit filed by a Lagos-based lawyer, Kabir Akingbolu, against the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, for an alleged lawlessness and public disturbance has sparked off controversy in the state .
In a suit filed at an Ado-Ekiti High Court, the plaintiff sought to enforce his fundamental human rights, claiming that the PDP candidate had caused an obstruction to free flow of traffic by blocking the Igede-Iyin road on April 29 during a campaign rally, with the assistance of the Nigeria Police authorities.
He, therefore prayed the court to among other things, restrain the defendant and award a N10 million damages to him.
The lawyer also alleged that attempt by him to seek explanation from the security agents at the venue was met with crudity, as they asked him to go to hell if he was not pleased with the development.
The plaintiff has also petitioned the Inspector General of Police, over the incident.
But Fayose, in a swift reaction, alleged that action was being orchestrated by the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to distract him from his political journey.
State Legal adviser of PDP, Kolapo Kolade, said the PDP has it on good authority that some APC sponsored personalities had already filed three suits in court with alleged intention to embarrass Fayose and frustrate his ambition.
