President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, alongside a special take-off grant of N15 billion to support its development.
The approval aligns with the provisions of the Nigeria Police Academy (Establishment) Act, 2021, which mandates the expansion of the academy—currently based in Wudil—into multiple campuses nationwide.
In a statement, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the intervention fund will be drawn from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund 2026 allocation. The funding is expected to cover key infrastructure, academic facilities, student accommodation, and essential training assets for the new campus.
The decision followed a high-level consultative meeting involving the Minister of Police Affairs, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission. The meeting recommended Erinja as the most suitable location after considering student capacity, funding realities, academic standards, and the growing manpower needs of the Nigerian Police Force.
President Tinubu noted that the expansion of the Police Academy will enhance institutional governance, improve the quality of modern policing education, and strengthen national security across the country.
