Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully averted an attempted mob attack on a facility belonging to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Plateau State, following unrest sparked by the detention of a suspect.
The incident occurred in the Vom area of Jos South Local Government Area, within the operational zone of Sector 6 under Operation Enduring Peace.
According to security sources, troops responded at about 11:00 a.m. on April 21 after receiving intelligence that a group of irate youths had mobilised to attack and burn down the NSCDC outpost.
The youths were reportedly protesting the detention of a suspect and were allegedly attempting to carry out jungle justice, while also threatening to destroy the security facility.
Troops, in collaboration with other security agencies, swiftly intervened and dispersed the crowd before the situation escalated into violence.
They also secured the area and facilitated the safe evacuation of the detained suspect to the NSCDC headquarters to prevent further unrest.
The timely response by security operatives ensured that no casualties were recorded and the facility remained unharmed.
