The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has alerted members of the public and the media to an attempted unauthorised compromise of its official X account.
The Director, Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, disclosed this in a statement, saying the incident is being treated as a cybersecurity matter.
According to him, appropriate technical measures have been activated to secure the account and prevent further unauthorised access.
The DHQ said efforts are ongoing to fully restore control of the official account, urging members of the public to disregard any suspicious, unauthorised or misleading content that may be posted from the account during the period.
The military authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the highest standards of information security and ensuring that the public continues to receive accurate, timely and credible information on the activities and operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
The Defence Headquarters also appreciated the public for its understanding and vigilance, assuring that further updates would be provided as necessary.
To ensure uninterrupted communication, the public has been advised to rely on the Defence Headquarters’ active official channels on other platforms for verified information.
