Officers of the Nigerian Army Finance Corps (NAFC) have been charged to sustain innovation and remain ahead of emerging trends in financial management to enhance operational effectiveness.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, gave the charge while represented by the Corps Commander Ordnance, Major General Garba Ibrahim, at the closing ceremony of the NAFC Officers’ 15th Biennial Training Conference held at the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration (NASFA), Arakan Cantonment, Apapa, Lagos.

The five-day conference, which ended on Thursday, August 13, 2026, focused on the theme, “Leveraging Digital Financial Technology and Professionalism for Enhanced Troops’ Morale Needed for Mission Successes.”

Lieutenant General Shaibu said NAFC officers must remain drivers of change by improving efficiency, strengthening accountability and ensuring timely financial support across all levels of command.

He noted that the conference provided an important platform to examine contemporary issues in military financial management, facilitate knowledge exchange and generate practical solutions for strengthening financial support to Nigerian Army operations.

The COAS stressed that the ongoing transformation of the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable, combat-ready and resilient force requires strong institutional support systems, with the Finance Corps playing a critical role through prudent financial management, timely resource allocation, sound financial advice and accountability.

He particularly highlighted the importance of digital transformation, automation, integrated financial management systems, artificial intelligence, data analytics and cybersecurity in modern financial governance and decision-making.

The Army Chief also commended the Chief of Accounts and Budget (Army), Major General Taofik Temitope Sidick, for initiatives aimed at deepening professionalism within the Corps, including the institutionalisation of Division Finance and Accounts Training Weeks and the conduct of Exercise COWRIE RITES 2026.

He urged participants to translate the knowledge gained at the conference into tangible improvements in financial planning, budgeting, audit readiness, digital innovation, accountability and service delivery.

The COAS further charged the officers to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, noting that their financial decisions have direct implications for operational effectiveness, troops’ welfare and public confidence in the Nigerian Army.

Earlier, the Acting Commandant of NASFA, Brigadier General John Bulus, in his vote of thanks, appreciated the COAS and the Nigerian Army leadership for their strategic guidance and support.

He also commended the resource persons, serving and retired senior officers, participants, organisers and support teams for their contributions to the success of the conference.

Brigadier General Bulus said the five-day event provided participants with renewed clarity, enhanced professional skills and a unified vision for transforming financial operations in support of frontline troops.

The conference brought together senior military officers, retired officers, former Chiefs of Accounts and Budget (Army), former directors and commanders of Army Finance and Accounts, resource persons and participants.

The event ended with the presentation of souvenirs and a cocktail party.
