Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have intensified efforts to rescue the Executive Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Honourable Nura Umar Abdullahi, who was abducted by armed terrorists during an attack on his residence in the early hours of Saturday.
The terrorists reportedly overpowered the Chairman’s police and vigilante security personnel before abducting him alongside members of his family.
According to the Theatre Command, troops responded immediately after hearing gunshots and swiftly moved to the scene, engaging the fleeing terrorists in a fierce pursuit. The prompt military intervention forced the attackers to abandon five members of the Chairman’s family, who were rescued safely.
Those rescued include the Chairman’s two children, his wife, mother and another relative. However, the terrorists escaped into nearby bushes with the abducted Chairman.
The attack claimed the lives of three members of the Chairman’s security team—two police officers and one local vigilante—who were killed while resisting the attackers. A civilian also lost his life during the incident, while the Chairman’s elder brother, Alhaji Bello Umar, sustained injuries.
In response, the Theatre Command activated a coordinated search-and-rescue operation involving troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilantes. Security forces are currently conducting targeted operations in suspected terrorist hideouts to secure the Chairman’s safe release.
The Command said it has deployed all available resources to the operation and is working closely with sister security agencies to ensure a successful rescue.
It reassured the Zamfara State Government and residents that every lawful operational measure is being taken to rescue the abducted Chairman and bring those responsible to justice.
The Theatre Command also appealed to members of the public to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and provide credible intelligence through established security channels to support the ongoing operation.
It reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and vowed to sustain operations until the abducted Chairman is safely reunited with his family and the perpetrators are apprehended.
