Delta Police, LG Councils Dismantle Nine Illegal Parks, Impound 45 Vehicles in Asaba

The Delta State Police Command, in partnership with the Oshimili North and Oshimili South Local Government Councils, has intensified efforts to restore order in Asaba with a crackdown on unauthorized parks and garages operating across the state capital.

The enforcement exercise, which commenced on Monday, July 20, targeted illegal parks and garages identified as major sources of traffic congestion, insecurity, and disorderly conduct. The Police also noted that the illegal facilities had become channels for the movement of unchecked parcels as waybills, creating opportunities for criminal activities.

During the operation, security operatives dismantled nine illegal parks located at strategic points across the metropolis. The affected locations include one park at Pinnacle Junction along Okpanam Road, two at the Summit area, three at the Koka area, and three others around the Head Bridge axis at the Delta-Anambra boundary.

A total of 45 vehicles were impounded during the exercise and handed over to the relevant Local Government authorities for possible prosecution in line with existing laws and regulations.

The Delta State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, said the operation is part of a broader strategy aimed at restoring sanity within the transport sector and ensuring that only duly registered parks and garages operate in the state.

The Command assured residents that similar enforcement exercises would be extended to other parts of Delta State as part of sustained efforts to improve public safety, reduce crime, and enhance orderly transportation.

It also appealed to Deltans, transport operators, and motorists to cooperate with the authorities by complying with established regulations and using only approved parks and garages.
