The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a series of operational successes across 10 states, including the foiling of a suspected assassination attempt, arrests of suspected kidnappers, armed robbery suspects and cultists, as well as the recovery of several firearms, ammunition and other criminal exhibits.
In Rivers State, police operatives on routine patrol along Kaani, Bori, in Khana Local Government Area, on September 15, 2026, reportedly foiled a suspected targeted assassination attempt. The suspects abandoned an AK-47 rifle loaded with two rounds of live ammunition and fled the scene. The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Port Harcourt, is investigating the incident.
In Kano State, operatives on September 14 arrested a suspected kidnapper and alleged gang leader of an armed criminal syndicate operating across Kano, Katsina and Kaduna states. Police said the suspect confessed to involvement in multiple kidnapping and cattle-rustling operations and provided information expected to assist in the arrest of other members of the syndicate and recovery of operational firearms.
Also on September 14, police operatives working with So-Safe Corps personnel intercepted a suspicious motorcycle conveying a bag along Success Community Road, Atan-Ota, in Ogun State. The abandoned bag reportedly contained a cut-to-size AK-47 rifle, a Russian single-barrel gun, an unserviceable Browning pistol, two live cartridges, an empty magazine and burglary tools.
In Lagos, police arrested one of the suspects linked to an armed robbery incident in Ajah on September 12. Recovered exhibits included a locally made pistol with one live cartridge, eight sachets of Tramadol, Indian hemp, charms and other items.
In Akwa Ibom, a suspected armed robbery suspect was arrested following a distress call at Ikot Ekweng Village, Ibiono Ibom LGA. A search of his residence led to the recovery of two locally made pistols and two machetes.
Police also recorded arrests in Nasarawa State, where three suspects were apprehended during a follow-up manhunt over an earlier violent attack in Bukan Ari, Doma LGA. Another suspect was separately arrested in connection with a reported case of culpable homicide at Kurum Village, Azara, also in Doma LGA.
In Imo State, operatives on vehicular patrol along Ifakala, Mbaitoli LGA, intercepted and arrested a suspect allegedly found with a locally made pistol loaded with one round of live ammunition.
Similarly, in Ekiti State, two suspected cultists were arrested at Olorunsogo Zone 4, Ado-Ekiti, following credible intelligence. Police said they recovered a simulated plastic firearm, a Lexus 350 car suspected to be proceeds of crime and substances suspected to be charms.
The police also reported an arrest in Oyo State, where a suspect was apprehended in connection with a case of assault occasioning harm in Eruwa, Ibarapa East LGA.
The respective State Criminal Investigation Departments are handling investigations into the cases, with the police expected to determine the suspects’ culpability and take further legal action where appropriate.
