Veteran Nigerian actor Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, has died at the age of 84.
Jacobs died on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, according to a statement issued by his family, including his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, and their son.
The family described the late actor, fondly known as the “Lion of Lufodo,” as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle.
In a statement announcing his death, the family said his passing came after “a life well lived and fought,” while giving his dates as 11 July 1942 – 16 September 2026.
The family also appealed to bloggers and social media influencers to respect their privacy as they mourn the veteran actor.
Olu Jacobs, who celebrated his 84th birthday on July 11, was one of Nigeria’s most prominent actors, with a career spanning several decades across theatre, television and film. His contributions to the Nigerian entertainment industry earned him widespread recognition and the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR).
His death comes after years of recurring false reports about his passing, which were repeatedly dismissed by his family.
Jacobs is survived by his wife, Joke Silva, their children and grandchildren.
