The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has urged residents of Plateau State to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that sustainable peace in the state can only be achieved through collective efforts by security forces, government authorities, traditional institutions, community leaders and citizens.
Shaibu made the call on Monday, September 14, 2026, during an operational visit to the headquarters of 3 Division, Nigerian Army, and Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), where he assessed the security situation in Plateau State, reviewed ongoing operations and examined measures being implemented to protect vulnerable communities.
The COAS charged troops of 3 Division and OPEP to maintain sustained pressure on criminal elements and intensify efforts to consolidate the peace and stability being recorded across the state. He also directed the troops to remain vigilant and respond decisively to emerging security threats while ensuring professionalism and respect for the rights of law-abiding citizens.
During the visit, Shaibu inspected the ongoing construction of the Nigerian Army Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) Control Station, a strategic facility expected to significantly enhance the Army’s Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities upon completion.
The RPAS facility is expected to provide commanders with improved real-time situational awareness and timely intelligence, thereby strengthening operational planning, decision-making and the ability of troops to respond rapidly to security threats.
Shaibu commended officers and soldiers of the Division and OPEP for their courage, professionalism and commitment to duty, urging them to sustain the momentum of ongoing operations.
He emphasised the importance of close cooperation between the military, other security agencies, traditional institutions and community leaders, noting that effective security operations require the support and cooperation of the communities being protected.
The Army Chief further stressed that military operations alone cannot guarantee lasting peace, saying they must be complemented by dialogue, reconciliation and other peace-building initiatives capable of addressing tensions and preventing criminal elements from exploiting communal grievances.
He therefore called on residents to support security agencies by providing accurate and timely information on suspicious movements and activities, stressing that citizens have an important role to play in strengthening the security architecture of the state.
The COAS assured troops of the continued support of the Nigerian Army and reaffirmed the military’s commitment to protecting lives and property while creating a secure environment where residents can live, work and pursue their legitimate livelihoods without fear.
He urged the troops to remain disciplined, professional and community-focused as they continue operations to consolidate peace and stability in Plateau State.
