Sept 15: Police Neutralise Terrorist, Rescue Kidnap Victims, Arrest 35 Suspects Across 10 States

The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a fresh wave of operational successes across several states, including the neutralisation of a suspected terrorist, rescue of kidnapped victims and arrest of at least 35 suspects in connection with terrorism, kidnapping, armed robbery, firearms offences, illicit drugs and other crimes.

The successes, recorded between September 12 and 15, 2026, also led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, motorcycles, vehicles, illicit drugs and other exhibits, according to a state-by-state operational summary issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu.

In Kebbi State, police operatives, working with military personnel, neutralised one suspected terrorist during a clearance operation in Gumki Village, Arewa Local Government Area, on September 14. The operation also resulted in the recovery of a PKT rifle with 174 rounds of live ammunition, an AK-47 rifle with 14 rounds, four motorcycles, mobile phones and other exhibits.

Similarly, in Katsina State, police operatives engaged armed bandits in a gun duel after two women were abducted in Sha’Iskawa Fulani Village, Kankia LGA. The attackers were reportedly overpowered and fled into the bush with gunshot wounds, abandoning the two victims, who were rescued unharmed.

The police also reported the arrest of three suspected armed robbers in Ogun State, with three expanded cartridges recovered, while six suspected members of an armed robbery gang were arrested in Akwa Ibom State. Two single-barrel guns, a motorcycle, three laptops and other exhibits were recovered from the suspects.

In Sokoto State, a suspected bandit informant was arrested in Wamakko LGA, with ₦900,000 allegedly collected as part of a levy imposed on a community recovered. Police said the suspect was providing information that could assist in the arrest of other members of the gang.

Delta State recorded two separate operations, with seven suspects arrested during a raid on a criminal hideout in Ukwuani LGA. A locally fabricated single-barrel firearm, live cartridge, illicit drugs, battle axe, mobile phones and a laptop were recovered. In separate raids in Aniocha North and Oshimili North LGAs, another 10 suspects were arrested, with two locally made firearms, illicit drugs, cannabis-related items and other exhibits recovered.

In Ekiti State, police operatives intercepted and arrested a suspected kidnapper and fraudster during a night operation along the Ekiti State University/Osekita Road. A Toyota Venza valued at ₦10.5 million, 255 SIM cards, four mobile phones, an international passport, tramadol and other exhibits were recovered.

In Rivers State, a manhunt operation in Bonny led to the arrest of a fleeing suspect, while a Beretta pistol earlier abandoned by the suspect was recovered.

Kaduna State also recorded a rescue operation on September 15, with police operatives rescuing a kidnapped victim around Arabu Forest in Makarfi LGA. The victim was medically evaluated before being reunited with his family.

In Kogi State, joint security operatives arrested a suspected kidnapper following an armed attack on a vehicle along the Okene–Ogori-Magongo–Lagos Highway. The suspect was arrested during a follow-up operation in the surrounding forest axis, with exhibits recovered.

Meanwhile, Jigawa State Police Command arrested a suspect over the alleged rape of an eight-year-old girl in Ringim Local Government Area.

The Force said the various cases are under investigation by the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments (SCIDs), with further actions expected as investigations progress.
