The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) into a world-class institution for specialised military and civilian education, with plans to undertake major infrastructural upgrades, including the establishment of Africa’s first Centre for Military Performance Management.
The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, gave the assurance on Saturday while receiving members of the University’s Governing Council at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking during the meeting, the Minister described NAUB as a strategic institution critical to developing the technical and operational capabilities needed by the Armed Forces of Nigeria to tackle evolving security threats.
General Musa said the Ministry of Defence would work closely with the Armed Forces to maximise the 30 per cent admission quota reserved for military personnel, thereby bridging specialised skill gaps within the nation’s security sector.
He stressed that the Federal Government remains committed to building a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of the digital age.
“As the Federal Government pushes for a highly skilled workforce in this digital era, we must encourage members of the Armed Forces, ministry staff, and the general public to leverage the cutting-edge technological and academic solutions available at NAUB,” the Minister said.
A major highlight of the meeting was the joint commitment by the Ministry and the University’s Governing Council to address critical infrastructure deficits on the campus. Among the proposed projects is the construction of a state-of-the-art Centre for Military Performance Management, which is expected to be the first of its kind in Africa.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Pioneer Pro-Chancellor of NAUB, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd), CFR, commended General Musa for his leadership and strategic vision, describing his contributions as instrumental to strengthening Nigeria’s defence architecture.
Buratai also lauded the Minister’s dedication to the Armed Forces and national development, while reaffirming the University’s commitment to academic excellence, cutting-edge research, and service to the nation.
The Nigerian Army University Biu was established to promote advanced learning, research, innovation and capacity development in support of Nigeria’s defence and national security objectives.
