The Yobe State Police Command has recorded major operational successes in its ongoing efforts to combat crime, arrest suspects, and recover exhibits linked to criminal activities across the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the achievements were recorded through intelligence-led operations, proactive policing, and strong community collaboration aimed at tackling vandalism, theft, youth-related violence, and other criminal offences.
One of the operations was carried out by officers attached to the Garin Alkali Division following a distress call reporting the theft of renovation materials belonging to Daskum Primary School in Bursari Local Government Area.
Police operatives swiftly mobilised and intercepted a suspect, identified as Musa Musa, 25, of Daskum Village, Masaba Ward, along the Gashua Road while allegedly transporting stolen building materials, including iron rods, from the school premises.
During the operation, officers recovered a black TVS motorcycle suspected to have been used in committing the crime. Police said the rider, identified only as Alhaji, fled the scene and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him. The arrested suspect has since been charged to court, while investigations continue to identify and arrest other accomplices.
In a separate incident, operatives of A Division, Damaturu, arrested two youths following a violent confrontation involving a dangerous weapon.
The suspects, Adam Maigaimu, 20, and Mohammed Umar, 18, were arrested after allegedly attacking each other with an axe, resulting in serious injuries. Further investigations revealed that the duo were also allegedly involved in the theft of a ram belonging to the complainant, which was subsequently sold and the proceeds converted for personal use.
The axe used in the attack was recovered and registered as an exhibit, while investigations into the case continue.
Meanwhile, officers attached to the Nguru Division carried out a targeted raid on a suspected criminal hideout at Anguwar Yan Rake, leading to the arrest of five suspects found in possession of substances suspected to be hard drugs.
Reacting to the successes, the Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, reaffirmed the Command’s determination to deny criminals any operating space within the state.
The police commissioner directed all Divisional Police Officers, tactical commanders, and personnel to intensify visible policing, strengthen community engagement, and sustain aggressive operations against criminal elements.
He also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to enhance public safety and security across Yobe State.
