The Nasarawa State Police Command has intercepted 174 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition and arrested a suspect in a major breakthrough against illegal arms trafficking in the state.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, the arrest was made on June 22, 2026, when operatives attached to the Toto Division, while conducting routine patrol along the Toto–Abaji Road, intercepted one Abubakar Abdullahi.

A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of 174 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition concealed in his possession.

Police authorities disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect could not provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the source, ownership, or intended destination of the ammunition.

The suspect is currently in police custody as investigators intensify efforts to uncover the criminal network behind the illegal movement of the ammunition and apprehend other accomplices connected to the crime.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, reiterated the Command’s determination to combat all forms of criminality, particularly the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition, which he described as a major driver of violent crimes and insecurity.

The police chief warned criminal elements operating within the state to abandon their activities or face the full weight of the law, stressing that the Command has strengthened intelligence-led policing, surveillance operations, and strategic deployments across Nasarawa.

“There will be no safe haven for criminals in Nasarawa State. We are determined to identify, track, and bring every offender to justice,” the Commissioner stated.

He further assured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging citizens to remain law-abiding and continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information.

The Nasarawa State Police Command maintained that it remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against crime and criminality and will continue to deploy all lawful measures to ensure the safety and security of residents across the state.
