Troops of 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, in collaboration with operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, have recorded fresh operational successes in Zamfara State, foiling terrorist activities and arresting a suspected foreign national linked to criminal elements.

Military sources disclosed that troops conducted a successful ambush operation against suspected terrorists at Gamdanda village in Gummi Local Government Area on Thursday evening.

The operation, which took place at about 6:59 p.m. on June 19, was carried out along suspected terrorist movement routes following intelligence reports on the activities of armed groups in the area.

During the operation, troops made contact with the suspected terrorists, leading to a brief exchange of fire. The criminals reportedly fled into nearby bushes under pressure from the security forces.

A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, 11 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, eight motorcycles, a desert jungle hat, and assorted food items believed to have been used by the fleeing suspects.

Military sources said troops have continued clearance operations within the general area to prevent the regrouping of the terrorists and deny them freedom of movement.

In a related development, troops of 1 Brigade arrested a suspected terrorist at the Government Science Secondary School in Dansadau, Maru Local Government Area of the state.

The arrest was made at about 9:20 p.m. during a routine security operation.

According to military sources, the suspect claimed to be a Chadian national but allegedly provided conflicting accounts regarding his identity and activities in the area, raising suspicion among the troops.

He was immediately taken into custody and is currently undergoing further interrogation and investigation.

The latest operations are part of ongoing efforts by security forces to sustain pressure on terrorist and criminal networks operating across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
