The National Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Grace Morenike Henry, has been inducted into the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Hall of Fame and honoured with the prestigious Merit Award for Nation Building in recognition of her outstanding humanitarian contributions and dedication to national service.
The award was presented at the Nigerian Legion Headquarters in Abuja by the NANS Vice President, Mohammed Abdulrazaq, who commended Ms Henry for her exemplary leadership, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of veterans, widows, and vulnerable families across the country.
Speaking during the presentation, Abdulrazaq described the Legion Chairman as a compassionate and visionary leader whose initiatives have continued to positively impact lives through vocational empowerment, humanitarian support, and welfare interventions for families of fallen heroes.
He noted that her contributions to nation-building and humanitarian development have brought honour not only to the Nigerian Legion but also to Nigeria as a whole.
Responding to the honour, Ms Henry expressed appreciation to the leadership of NANS for the recognition, describing her induction into the Hall of Fame as a significant and humbling moment.
She used the occasion to advise Nigerian students to remain focused, disciplined, and avoid negative associations capable of destroying their future and moral values.
“Negative associations, conversations, and influences can undermine good character and behaviour,” she warned, while encouraging students to uphold integrity, patriotism, and service to humanity.
The NANS delegation at the event included the National Liaison Officer, Victor Obodo; representatives from Ahmadu Bello University, including Amana Frank; the NANS National Secretary, Paul Gajik; and the Deputy National Secretary, Danjuma Bulus Akolo.
In a related humanitarian intervention, Ms Henry also empowered the widow of late Colonel Godfrey Okechukwu Nebo (rtd) with an industrial grinding machine and a cash gift to support her livelihood.
The presentation was carried out on behalf of the Chairman by the Secretary General of the Nigerian Legion, Isah Yakubu, and the Provost of Headquarters Nigerian Legion, Toye Kudehinbu, during a brief ceremony at the Legion Headquarters in Abuja.
The intervention forms part of the Nigerian Legion’s sustained commitment under Ms Henry’s leadership to improving the welfare and economic stability of widows of fallen military personnel and veterans across the country.
