Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have foiled an attempted terrorist infiltration along the Gujba–Buni Yadi Main Supply Route (MSR) in Yobe State, forcing about 30 suspected insurgents to retreat under sustained military fire.
Security sources disclosed that the operation was conducted at about 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, following credible intelligence indicating the movement of terrorists along the strategic highway.
According to the sources, troops of the 198 Special Forces Battalion, reinforced by personnel of the 27 Task Force Brigade, swiftly deployed to the Mahadiya Bridge area after receiving reports that the insurgents were attempting to infiltrate the western flank of the Gujba–Buni Yadi corridor.
The terrorists, estimated to be about 30 in number, were said to have exploited the difficult marshy terrain in an attempt to bypass ongoing military clearance operations around the Buni Yadi Forest and adjoining communities.
However, the troops engaged the insurgents with overwhelming firepower, forcing them to abandon the infiltration attempt and retreat without achieving their objective.
Following the firefight, the troops conducted extensive exploitation operations across Gujba, Gidan Kaji, Kasatchiya, Mahadiya, the College of Agriculture axis, and Sabon Garin Mai Mala to ensure no terrorists remained concealed within the area.
Military sources said surveillance and monitoring operations have been intensified to prevent the insurgents from regrouping or launching fresh attacks.
The foiled infiltration comes as Operation HADIN KAI sustains aggressive offensive operations under Operation Desert Sanity V, a campaign designed to dismantle terrorist enclaves, disrupt insurgent movements, and deny criminal elements freedom of action across the North-East.
Military authorities noted that while the overall security situation in the theatre remains relatively calm, it is still unpredictable, adding that troops remain on high alert and fully prepared to respond swiftly to any emerging threats.- By Zagazola Makama
