The National Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Alhaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, has commended the ongoing Nigeria Police recruitment exercise in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), describing the process as transparent and inclusive.
Speaking during an assessment visit to the recruitment centre in Abuja on Monday, Olaniyan revealed that the PCRC is actively participating in the screening exercise nationwide, in collaboration with the Police Service Commission and other stakeholders.
In a press statement signed by the PCRC Director of Global Communications and Media Relations, Olayemi Esan, the PCRC National Chairman noted that this marks the first time the Police Service Commission has formally involved the PCRC in the recruitment process, a move he described as a significant step toward strengthening public trust and accountability.
According to him, the presence of key officials, including zonal and FCT PCRC leaders, senior police officers, and representatives of civil society organisations, is aimed at ensuring fairness and protecting the rights of indigenous applicants.
Olaniyan emphasized that the collaborative approach is designed to prevent irregularities and guarantee that recruitment slots meant for FCT indigenes are not taken by applicants from other states.
Addressing the candidates, the PCRC chairman expressed confidence in their potential, describing them as “the best set of police constables in the history of Nigeria.” He congratulated them in advance and encouraged them to remain focused throughout the screening stages.
He also praised the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, highlighting his commitment to the welfare and development of junior officers. Olaniyan noted that the current IGP prioritizes the needs of personnel at the grassroots level and maintains a strong interest in their progress.
Furthermore, he acknowledged the role of the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, retired Deputy Inspector-General Hashimu Argungu, for his leadership in facilitating the recruitment of 50,000 constables at once—an initiative he described as unprecedented in the history of the Nigeria Police Force.
Olaniyan concluded by expressing optimism that the ongoing exercise would produce competent and dedicated officers who would contribute meaningfully to national security.
