The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Thursday presented Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident and Family Welfare Support cheques to the families and next of kin of 79 fallen police officers as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day.

The cheques were presented by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, during a ceremony held at the FCT Police Command Headquarters, Garki II, Abuja.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, describing the exercise as a demonstration of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the welfare of serving personnel and the families of officers who died in the line of duty.

According to the statement, the gesture forms part of the events lined up to commemorate the 2026 National Police Day and reflects the welfare-driven leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

Speaking during the presentation, CP Sanusi conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the beneficiaries and reassured them of the Force’s continued support.

He noted that the sacrifices made by the fallen officers in service to the nation would never be forgotten, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to standing by their families.

The FCT Command said the presentation of the cheques underscores the institution’s resolve to honour officers who paid the supreme price in the discharge of their duties, while also extending meaningful support to the loved ones they left behind.

The event was one of several activities held nationwide in commemoration of the 2026 National Police Day.
