The Delta State Police Command on Thursday presented cheques worth ₦16,679,749.92 to families of deceased police officers as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Week.
The cheques were presented to 13 beneficiaries in a gesture aimed at supporting families of officers who died in the line of duty.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the event marked the climax of the week-long National Police Week activities in Delta State ahead of the grand finale scheduled to hold at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
According to the statement, the presentation underscores the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the welfare of its personnel and the families they leave behind.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, described the occasion as both solemn and significant.
He said the event reflects the determination of the Force leadership to continue supporting officers and their families, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
The Commissioner assured the beneficiaries that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to stand by them and urged them to make judicious use of the financial support provided.
He stressed that the sacrifices of the fallen officers remain invaluable and would never be forgotten.
In a vote of appreciation, one of the beneficiaries, Ahanuwa Raphael, who spoke on behalf of the others, thanked the Inspector-General of Police and the Delta State Police Command for the support extended to the bereaved families.
He said the gesture would go a long way in alleviating the burden on the families and prayed for continued strength and success for the Nigeria Police Force.
The cheque presentation formed part of activities lined up for the 2026 National Police Week, with the Delta State Command describing the initiative as a demonstration of institutional care and remembrance for officers who paid the supreme price in service to the nation.
