The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and motorcycle snatchers, recovering a locally made cut-to-size double-barrelled gun loaded with two live cartridges, as part of ongoing operations to rid the state of criminal elements.
The Command also recovered a suspected stolen Toyota Sienna bus loaded with suspected vandalised items in a separate operation.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, said the arrests and recoveries were recorded through proactive policing under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi.
According to the statement, operatives of the Agbor Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, intercepted two suspects on March 31, 2026, at about 7:45 p.m. during an anti-crime patrol and stop-and-search operation at College Junction, Agbor.
The suspects were identified as Julius Godday, 31, and Mzemeke Peter, 28, both males, who were riding on a motorcycle when they were flagged down by the police.
Police said the suspects attempted to flee on sighting the operatives but were swiftly pursued and arrested.
A search conducted on them led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size double-barrelled gun loaded with two live cartridges.
Preliminary investigation, according to the police, revealed that the suspects are allegedly members of the Eiye confraternity and have been linked to a series of motorcycle snatching incidents within the area.
The police added that the suspects have allegedly confessed to the crime and are currently in custody.
The case, the Command said, will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Asaba, for further discreet investigation and possible prosecution.
In a separate development, the Command said it recovered a suspected stolen vehicle conveying suspected vandalised items in Sapele.
The police disclosed that on March 30, 2026, at about 1:30 p.m., the Sapele Division received a report from a concerned citizen who allegedly sighted a Toyota Sienna bus transporting suspected vandalised items, including iron cuts and a gas cylinder.
Acting on the information, a patrol team under the supervision of the Divisional Police Officer was immediately deployed to the scene.
However, on sighting the police, the hoodlums reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush.
The vehicle was subsequently recovered and towed to the station, while preliminary investigation has commenced.
Police said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Commending the operatives for the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, urged residents of the state to continue supporting the police with credible and timely information.
He assured that the Command remains committed to sustaining the fight against crime and criminality across Delta State.
The police also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station.
