The Commandant of the Nigeria Army Depot, Osogbo, Brigadier General Buhari Madaki, has commended journalists for their vital role in advancing national security through responsible reporting and effective information dissemination.
Brigadier General Madaki gave the commendation while receiving the executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council, during a courtesy visit to the Depot in Osogbo.
He noted that the task of securing the nation is a collective responsibility that requires the active participation of all stakeholders, describing the media as an indispensable partner in promoting peace, stability, and public awareness.
The Commandant described the visit as both timely and significant, adding that the Nigeria Army Depot, Osogbo, which was established in June last year, was created to train non-commissioned officers as part of the Nigerian Army’s broader efforts to strengthen its operational capacity.
Brigadier General Madaki also underscored the importance of strategic awareness and informed judgment—what he described as cognizance—in tackling terrorism and other emerging security threats confronting the country.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council, Comrade Adeyemi Aboderin, praised the Nigerian Army for its steadfast commitment to combating insurgency and defending the nation’s territorial integrity.
He stressed the need for sustained collaboration between journalists and the military, noting that stronger synergy between both institutions is essential for promoting peace, unity, and national development.
Also present during the visit were the Deputy Commandant of the Depot, Colonel M.E. Obi, Major Y.A. Ibrahim, and Captain A.A. Bindawa.
