Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have commenced an investigation into the alleged killing of a 60-year-old farmer, Mr. Bulus Turu, who was reportedly attacked while returning home from his farm in Kimis Zagu District, Rukuba Chiefdom, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources said the incident occurred following an alleged ambush in which the victim was reportedly attacked with machetes by yet-to-be-identified assailants.
The military said preliminary inquiries have commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify those responsible, and ensure they are brought to justice. Troops have also intensified security patrols and surveillance in the affected community to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
Authorities urged residents to remain calm, avoid taking the law into their own hands, and provide credible information that could assist ongoing investigations.
The deceased, Bulus Turu, is survived by two wives, 11 children, and several extended family members.
Operation ENDURING PEACE reaffirmed its commitment to working with other security agencies and community leaders to sustain peace and protect lives and property across Plateau State.
