The Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, on Wednesday graduated 52 military personnel from Staff Duties Course 138/26 in a ceremony held at the newly constructed Kuliya Hall.
The graduation, which took place on April 1, 2026, marked the first official ceremony to be hosted in the new hall, a development described by the College as a major infrastructural milestone aimed at improving its academic environment and strengthening its international reputation.
Speaking on the highlights of the course, the Director of Joint Studies, Brigadier General K. Rabiu, said the College has trained over 7,000 personnel since its establishment through structured staff training programmes.
He explained that the Staff Duties Course was suspended in 2005 to allow for a comprehensive review of its curriculum and learning environment, leading to the introduction of a modernised programme tailored to current operational and administrative realities.
Brigadier General Rabiu said one of the major innovations of the revised curriculum was the transition from handwritten to typed submissions, noting that the change reflects the digitalisation of modern headquarters processes and is expected to improve accuracy, presentation standards, and information management discipline.
He commended the AFCSC Commandant for creating the enabling environment for the successful implementation of the reforms, adding that the pioneer participants of the revised curriculum showed resilience and adaptability despite the increased academic demands.
According to him, the 12-week course had 52 participants drawn from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy and Nigerian Air Force, all of whom successfully completed the programme with no recorded failure.
He said the 100 per cent success rate demonstrates both the commitment of the participants and the effectiveness of the College’s instructional framework.
The Commandant of AFCSC, Air Vice Marshal A.O. Shogbanmu, represented by the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies, Rear Admiral A.V. Kujoh, formally conferred the Passed Staff Duties (PSD) A1 qualification on the graduands after they met all prescribed requirements.
In his remarks, the Special Guest of Honour and Commandant of the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre, Major General D.G. Allu, congratulated the graduands and commended AFCSC for its commitment to institutional development, especially through the provision of modern infrastructure and the adoption of digital documentation processes.
He charged the graduands to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in staff duties, stressing that the qualification signifies both recognition and responsibility.
Major General Allu urged them to become reference points in administrative procedures, staff writing, document security and records management in their various units.
He also underscored the importance of inter-service cooperation, saying the relationships built during the course would strengthen joint operations and inter-agency collaboration in Nigeria’s evolving security environment.
In a vote of thanks, the Course Senior, Sergeant Abang Francis, expressed appreciation to the College leadership, directing staff and instructors for their dedication throughout the training.
He also thanked families and well-wishers for their support, assuring that the graduands would remain worthy ambassadors of the College.
The ceremony is seen as another significant step in AFCSC’s ongoing efforts to deepen clerical professionalism and improve administrative efficiency within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
