Troops of Operation White Shield (OPWS) have arrested a suspected gunrunner and recovered ammunition and cash during an operation in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Security sources said the suspect was apprehended at about 9:20 a.m. on March 14 at Agwatashi by troops of Section 2 OPWS, deployed in Awe and Lafia, working in collaboration with a tactical team from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
According to the sources, the suspect is believed to be involved in the supply of firearms to criminal networks operating along the Kwara–Kogi axis.
Items recovered from the suspect include 200 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a mobile phone, and ₦50,000 in cash.
The sources further disclosed that the suspect and the recovered exhibits are currently in military custody for further investigation.
They added that follow-up operations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected arms supply network.
