Showmax will soon be discontinued after a strategic decision by its parent company MultiChoice, according to a notice sent to subscribers on 5 March 2026.
In a message to customers, MultiChoice said the decision followed a “comprehensive review” of its digital streaming operations as it seeks to strengthen its broader entertainment offering and ensure long-term sustainability in an increasingly competitive streaming market.
Despite the announcement, the company assured subscribers that the service will continue operating for now.
“At the moment there will be no interruption to your current service. You can continue streaming as usual, and no action is required from you at this time,” the company stated.
MultiChoice added that Showmax users remain a priority and promised to communicate further details ahead of the shutdown, including timelines and any steps customers may need to take.
The company also reaffirmed that streaming remains a key part of its long-term strategy, noting that it will continue investing in premium content, technological innovation and strategic partnerships to improve its digital entertainment services.
Further information on the transition is expected to be communicated to subscribers in the coming months.
