The Anambra State Police Command has declared that it will not shield any officer found culpable in a viral complaint video alleging unprofessional conduct by police personnel in Onitsha.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Command said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Okpoko had already intercepted the complaint and immediately began efforts to identify the officers allegedly involved in the incident.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed the DPO to produce the affected officers for investigation and possible disciplinary action in line with the provisions of the Nigeria Police Force.
Preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation reportedly showed that the money allegedly collected from the victim had been returned — a development the Command described as a serious indictment and evidence of unprofessional conduct by the officers concerned.
The Command also disclosed that the involvement of a POS operator in the incident points to a possible conspiracy, further widening the scope of the investigation.
Reaffirming its stance on accountability, the Anambra Police Command stressed that no officer found wanting would be protected, adding that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken in accordance with established procedures.
“The Command reiterates that it will not shield any officer found culpable. Appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken in accordance with established procedures,” the statement said.
The police also assured residents that the Command remains committed to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of citizens’ rights, noting that further updates on the case will be made public as investigations progress.
