....Cadets of NDA 73 Regular Combatant Course Visit Nigerian Army Armour School
Cadets of the 73 Regular Combatant Course (RC 73) of the Nigerian Defence Academy have undertaken a study tour to the Nigerian Army Armour School as part of efforts to deepen their practical understanding of armoured warfare and the role of the Armoured Corps in modern military operations.
The visit, which took place on 5 February 2026, exposed the cadets to the operational capabilities, equipment, and organisational structure of the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps. The tour commenced with a static display of various armoured fighting vehicles, offering the cadets an opportunity to closely observe the platforms and gain insights into their design, deployment, and battlefield effectiveness.
In a series of briefings, instructors of the Armour School enlightened the cadets on the history of the Armoured Corps, its evolution, and its critical role in contemporary military operations, particularly within joint and multi-agency environments.
In his welcome address, the Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School, AH Ahmed, stated that the study tour was designed to expose cadets to the professional roles and responsibilities of the Armoured Corps.
He noted that the initiative aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy, which seeks “to advance the transformation of the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable, combat-ready and resilient force capable of decisively discharging its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment.”
Major General Ahmed further highlighted the strategic role of the Headquarters Nigerian Army Armoured Corps in policy formulation, equipment maintenance, and the overall development of the Corps. He explained that the Commander Armoured Corps serves as the principal adviser to the Chief of Army Staff on all armoured-related matters, including training and career development of armour personnel.
The Commandant encouraged the cadets to consider careers within the Armoured Corps as they progress in their military training. He also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, W Shaibu, for sustained support to training, and commended the Commander Armoured Corps, UB Abubakar, for his leadership and commitment to the Armour School’s training programmes.
According to a press statement signed by AA Adekunle, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, the study tour culminated in a live firepower demonstration at the Victor Kure Armoured Range. During the exercise, the cadets witnessed the armoured fighting vehicles in action, showcasing the combat effectiveness and operational strength of the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps.
The demonstration provided a fitting conclusion to the tour, reinforcing classroom learning with real-world operational experience.
