The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, has commended troops of the Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma (HQ JTF OPFY) for their resilience, professionalism, and sustained offensive posture against criminal elements, urging them to remain resolute, disciplined, and mission-focused in safeguarding lives and property.

The Minister gave the commendation on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, during his maiden operational visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force in the North-West theatre.

Addressing officers and soldiers, General Musa reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of security forces through the provision of modern combat enablers and force multipliers. He noted that the induction of new platforms would significantly enhance mobility, intelligence gathering, surveillance, reconnaissance, and rapid response capabilities across the theatre.

He emphasised that the ongoing investment in modern military hardware was aimed at consolidating recent gains and ensuring sustained pressure on criminal groups terrorising communities in the region.

A statement signed by Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer, Operation Fansan Yamma, disclosed that on arrival at the headquarters, the Minister was received by the Theatre Commander, Major General WB Idris, alongside the General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 OPFY, the Commander 1 Brigade, and the Commander of the Nigerian Air Force Quick Response Group.

The visit followed the commissioning of newly procured Armoured Personnel Carriers and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles acquired by the Zamfara State Government to strengthen ongoing security operations in Zamfara and the wider North-West.

In his remarks, the Theatre Commander, Major General Idris, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and the Zamfara State Governor for their continued support. He said the newly commissioned combat platforms would further consolidate operational gains and accelerate ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and stability across the state.

The visit, according to the statement, underscores the strategic resolve of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Nigeria to decisively degrade threats to national security and ensure a safe and secure environment for citizens.
