19th August: Police Record Arrests, Kidnap Rescues, Weapons Recoveries In 14 Operations Across Nigeria

The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a series of operational successes across 10 states, including arrests of suspected criminals, rescue of kidnapped victims, recovery of firearms and ammunition, and the disruption of criminal activities.

The development was contained in the State-by-State Executive Summary of police operational successes for August 19, 2026, signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu.

In Abia State, police operatives arrested a 55-year-old man allegedly attempting to vandalise rail tracks along the Aba-Owerri railway corridor. A pump-action gun, vehicle, metal cutter, two machetes and a mobile phone were recovered.

In Enugu State, separate operations resulted in the arrest of eight suspects and the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, a locally made pistol, 63 rounds of ammunition, three magazines, an explosive device and three machetes.

Police also rescued three kidnapped victims along the Port Harcourt Expressway after engaging five armed hoodlums who abandoned their vehicle and fled. A locally fabricated pistol, a cut-to-size firearm, ammunition, a magazine, hand gloves, a face mask and the stolen vehicle were recovered.

In Ebonyi State, three suspects were arrested in separate operations, while two pump-action rifles, an operational Toyota Camry and two mobile phones were recovered. Police also rescued a kidnapping victim shortly after the abduction, while three other members of the suspected syndicate escaped.

In Katsina State, police tactical operatives repelled a suspected bandit attack along the Sabuwa-Marabar Yakawada Road following a sustained gun battle. No loss of life or firearm was recorded.

Oyo State Police arrested four suspects linked to the circulation of counterfeit currency and recovered fake currency worth ₦1,211,500.

In Ogun State, police dispersed suspected armed robbers in Atan-Ota and recovered an abandoned backpack containing a mobile phone, iPad, electric pressing iron, earpod, clothes and medication. Operatives also rescued an unidentified man who was severely assaulted during a mob action in Sagamu.

Osun State Police arrested one suspect in connection with the death of a woman in Ikirun, while efforts continue to apprehend the principal suspect.

In Plateau State, one suspect was arrested following a deadly attack in Mangu Local Government Area. Additional security personnel were deployed to the affected community to prevent further escalation and restore public confidence.

In Yobe State, police operatives responded to an attack in Fika LGA, during which one suspect was neutralised and another arrested. Bows, arrows, a cutlass and a bag containing charms were recovered.

The Force Public Relations Officer said the various cases remain under investigation by the respective State Criminal Investigation Departments, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing suspects and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incidents.

The police said the operations demonstrate the continued efforts of its personnel to disrupt criminal networks, protect lives and property, and maintain public safety across the country.
