The Crime Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CCAN) has congratulated the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on his appointment as the 23rd indigenous IGP, describing the development as well deserved and a positive step toward strengthening Nigeria’s internal security architecture.
In a press statement jointly signed by the association’s Chairman, Sam Ogbeifun, and Secretary-General, Babatunde Ayeni, CCAN said the appointment was a testament to Disu’s years of professionalism, diligence, outstanding leadership qualities, and unwavering commitment to advancing the Nigeria Police Force to meet global standards.
The association noted that over the years, the Acting IGP has distinguished himself through exceptional service in various strategic positions. These include his roles in the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), as Personal Staff Officer to former IGP Kayode Egbetokun, Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as Assistant Inspector-General of Police at the Alagbon Annex, among other professional assignments. CCAN also highlighted his discipline and resilience, noting that he holds a Black Belt in Judo.
According to the statement, crime correspondents and other critical stakeholders in the security and justice sectors are confident that Disu’s wealth of operational experience, strong academic and professional background, and longstanding relationship with the media will further enhance the existing cordial ties between the Police and the press.
The association expressed optimism that the synergy between the media and the Police leadership would be sustained and strengthened, fostering openness, inclusivity, and prompt engagement with the media, which it described as vital for effective policing and credible public relations.
CCAN also pledged its continued support and collaboration with the office of the Force Public Relations Officer in the collective responsibility of informing the public, shaping positive narratives, and projecting the achievements of the Nigeria Police in crime prevention, law enforcement, and internal security management.
The association prayed for wisdom, strength, and divine guidance for the Acting IGP as he assumes the responsibility of leading the Force, expressing confidence that his tenure would be successful and impactful.
It further reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Police leadership in the service of national security and development.
