Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have recorded significant operational successes across the North-East, neutralising high-value terrorist elements, disrupting insurgent networks, and foiling criminal activities through sustained intelligence-led operations.
In a major breakthrough, intelligence has confirmed the elimination of Julaibib, a senior ISWAP commander operating within the Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle. The terrorist leader was neutralised during an encounter around Kimba in Damboa on 30 January 2026.
Further intelligence revealed that the operation dealt a severe blow to ISWAP’s command and control structure in the area, throwing its elements into disarray, with several fighters reportedly neutralised.
In a related operation, troops of OPHK, working in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force, neutralised three terrorists during a well-coordinated ambush between Ngazalgana and Lamusheri communities in Borno State. The operation followed credible intelligence on insurgent movement along the route. Two AK-47 rifles were recovered, while surviving insurgents fled with injuries.
Similarly, on 29 January 2026, troops deployed in an ambush position at Tsokorok in GWOZA engaged BH/ISWAP terrorists, forcing them to withdraw. One terrorist was neutralised during the encounter, with no casualties recorded on the side of the troops. Two motorcycles were recovered from the scene.
In Adamawa State, troops also recorded notable successes. On 29 January 2026, soldiers swiftly responded to a distress call from Barama community in Mubi North, foiling an armed robbery attempt. Two suspects were arrested while attempting to attack a student of the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi. Recovered items included cutlasses, laptops, mobile phones, and a power bank. The suspects were subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation.
Earlier, on 28 January 2026, troops in conjunction with local vigilantes conducted a fighting patrol along the Amtasa–Washim axis in Hong. During the patrol, troops engaged terrorists, forcing them to retreat in disarray. A woman abducted by the terrorists was rescued, while arms and ammunition, including an AK-47 rifle and assorted rounds, were recovered.
The overall security situation across the theatre remains stable as troops sustain pressure on terrorist and criminal elements.
Confirming the operations, the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Sani Uba, stated that the successes reflect the resolve of the troops to dismantle terrorist networks and restore lasting peace. He emphasized that OPHK remains committed to protecting lives and property while working closely with local communities and critical security stakeholders to ensure long-term stability and economic recovery across the North-East.
