Gusau Zamfara - The Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has recorded significant operational successes against terrorism and banditry, neutralizing 168 terrorists, arresting 357 collaborators and logistics suppliers, and rescuing 1,624 kidnapped victims across its area of responsibility.

The achievements were disclosed by the Acting Military Assistant SO1/J6, Major Anene, during an operational tour of the North-West Theatre Command by Defence Correspondents from Abuja.

Briefing journalists at the Theatre Command Headquarters, Major Anene revealed that troops recovered 104 assorted weapons, including 209 AK-47 rifles, as well as 3,845 rounds of ammunition, two Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) bombs, and 1,731 rustled livestock during various operations.

He noted that the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA played a critical role through intensive air interdiction missions, executing a total of 468 sorties that degraded terrorist strongholds and disrupted supply routes across the theatre.

According to him, the operation also recorded notable success in counter-kidnapping efforts, including the rescue of a retired senior military officer, two serving soldiers, and several abducted civilians across multiple sectors. Most recently, troops rescued 24 kidnapped girls of the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Danko, in Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, alongside the foiling of several kidnapping attempts, particularly in Gwara axis.

Major Anene stated that since its inception in January 2025, Operation FANSAN YAMMA has maintained sustained pressure on terrorist and bandit networks across Sectors 1, 2, and 3, significantly degrading their operational capabilities and restoring confidence among affected communities.

Outlining future operational projections, he said the Theatre Command would continue sustained offensive operations, strengthen long-range patrols, and intensify actions in remote and hard-to-reach areas to dismantle remaining terrorist and bandit enclaves and secure vulnerable communities.

In conclusion, the Theatre Command expressed appreciation to the Chief of Defence Staff for his unwavering support and strategic guidance, reaffirming its commitment to eradicating terrorism and banditry within the Joint Operations Area and restoring lasting peace and security across the North-West region.
