Facts have emerged indicating that one Eboka Benjamin, an officer of the Federal Fire Service (FFS) serving in Delta State, tested positive for marijuana and Tramadol during a drug screening conducted by a leading private specialist hospital in the state with the requisite facilities and expertise to carry out such tests.
The development follows an earlier report published on Monday by Sahara Reporters, which detailed the re-arrest of Eboka by the Delta State Police Command. The report alleged that the officer was extorted of the sum of ₦200,000 as bail money during the initial arrest.
In response, the Delta State Police Command issued a statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding the arrest. According to the police, Eboka Benjamin was apprehended alongside two other individuals while inside a Mercedes Benz GLK vehicle parked on a close street opposite the Pinnacle Hotel, Asaba. The command stated that the suspects were allegedly in the process of purchasing illicit drugs from a suspected drug dealer at the time of arrest.
Police further disclosed that the trio were arrested together with the suspected dealer and that incriminating exhibits were recovered at the scene, forming the basis for the ongoing investigation.
Beyond the drug-related allegations, there have also been further claims linking Eboka Benjamin to internet-related fraud, commonly referred to as “Yahoo Yahoo.” These allegations, police sources say, are also being looked into as part of the broader investigation.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that Eboka underwent a drug test at a reputable private specialist hospital in Delta State, where results reportedly indicated a positive outcome. Authorities insist that all actions taken so far have followed due process and that investigations remain ongoing.
The Delta State Police Command has confirmed that the Federal Fire Service, the organization where Eboka Benjamin is employed, has been formally informed of the developments and the progress of the matter as investigations continue.
