The Nigeria Police Force has congratulated a retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Godwin Chijioke Nwobodo, fdc, on his coronation as the traditional ruler (Igwe) of Ihueze-Nnewe Autonomous Communities in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.
In a press statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police described the coronation of Retired DIG Nwobodo, which took place on Saturday, December 27, 2025, as a well-deserved honour that reflects his lifetime of exemplary service, integrity, and commitment to leadership in both public service and community development.
According to the statement, his elevation to the revered traditional stool affirms the confidence reposed in his character, wisdom, and capacity to lead. Retired DIG Nwobodo joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1984 and served the nation for over three decades in various operational, administrative, and leadership roles across the country.
He served as Divisional Police Officer in several police divisions nationwide, where he distinguished himself through professionalism and exemplary leadership. He also served as Director of Courses at the Nigeria Police Academy, Kano, contributing significantly to the training and mentorship of police officers.
Nwobodo later rose to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police and headed the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. In that role, he played a key part in advancing the integration of technology into policing operations and administration.
The statement noted that he retired meritoriously from the Nigeria Police Force on August 12, 2019, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, discipline, and institutional contribution. His transition from national service to traditional leadership, the Police said, represents a continuation of his lifelong commitment to service, now focused on promoting peace, unity, cultural preservation, and sustainable development within his community.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, expressed confidence that His Royal Highness, Igwe Godwin Chijioke Nwobodo, fdc, will bring his vast experience in leadership, conflict management, and governance to bear in the discharge of his royal responsibilities.
