The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Wednesday, 7 January 2026, assured officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army of enhanced welfare measures aimed at boosting morale and improving operational effectiveness

The assurance was given during his tour of the 18 Brigade of the Nigerian Army at Latini Barracks, Bida, Niger State, where he addressed officers and soldiers of the formation. The Army Chief stated that the Nigerian Army, under his leadership, remains fully committed to prioritising the welfare of personnel and their families, describing it as a critical factor for achieving sustained operational success.

Lieutenant General Shaibu noted that the welfare of officers and soldiers is receiving serious and continuous attention at the highest level, adding that concrete steps are being taken to address challenges affecting personnel. He commended the troops of 18 Brigade for their dedication, resilience, and commitment to duty, particularly in ensuring relative peace and stability within their Area of Responsibility.

The COAS charged the troops to remain resolute and professional in their operations, urging them to sustain efforts aimed at degrading and neutralising bandits and terrorists in order to restore public confidence and enhance overall security

In further reassurance, the Army Chief disclosed plans to construct additional accommodation facilities across formations and to establish skills acquisition centres designed to improve the well-being and economic empowerment of troops’ families.

The visit underscored the Nigerian Army’s resolve to strengthen troop morale, enhance welfare delivery, and sustain operational momentum in the fight against security threats across the country.
