The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant operational successes against kidnapping, violent crime, arms trafficking, and drug-related offences following intelligence-led operations across the state and neighbouring regions.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Aina Adesola, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing in Asaba, where he highlighted achievements recorded since his assumption of office as the 23rd Commissioner of Police in the state.
According to the CP, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) have intensified targeted operations, leading to the arrest of suspected kidnappers, gun runners, armed robbers, and drug dealers, as well as the recovery of firearms, ammunition, illicit drugs, and cash.

CP Adesola revealed that on 29 December 2025, CP-SAT operatives arrested a suspected notorious inter-state kidnapper, Abubakar Mohammed, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, following credible intelligence on a syndicate terrorising parts of Delta, Bayelsa, and Rivers States.
He stated that the suspect led operatives to a concealed bush location along Tobia Village, Amasoma area of Airport Road, Bayelsa State, where one AK-47 rifle, 76 rounds of live ammunition, and two AK-47 magazines were recovered.
Further investigation, according to the police boss, resulted in another recovery on 2 January 2026 at Uyamuge Forest along the Ughelli–Warri axis, where operatives uncovered one K-2 rifle, 49 rounds of live ammunition, three K-2 magazines, one pump-action gun, and 32 live cartridges. The suspect remains in custody while investigations continue.
In another operation, CP Adesola said CP-SAT operatives stormed Ohoror community along the Ughelli–Patani Road on 6 January 2026 following intelligence on the presence of suspected kidnappers.
He explained that the suspects opened fire on sighting the police, leading to a gun duel during which one suspect sustained fatal gunshot injuries. Recovered from the scene were one K-2 rifle, two locally made guns, and assorted ammunition. The injured suspect was confirmed dead at the hospital, while a manhunt is ongoing for fleeing members of the gang.
The Commissioner further disclosed that on 3 January 2026, CP-SAT operatives arrested three suspected gun runners during a sting operation at Ovieta Street, Ughelli Town.
The suspects were identified as Areuro Oke (38), the intended buyer; Onos Echabor (47), the middleman; and Akpofure Emmanuel (45). One pump-action gun and ₦280,000, believed to be part payment for the illegal arms transaction, were recovered. Investigation is ongoing.
CP Adesola also reported the arrest of suspected drug barons during raids conducted on 3 and 5 January 2026 at New Road by Ewereto Junction, Sapele, and Agofure Park, Effurun Roundabout, Warri.
Those arrested include Bemigho Omoghomi (28), Onoriode Samuel (46), and two others, with large quantities of illicit drugs recovered. The suspects are currently in custody.
In a related development, operatives of the Effurun Area Command raided a drug hideout along the Sapele–Warri Road, arresting one Chioma Ada Ifuwe Wanogho and recovering 45 wraps of weeds suspected to be Loud and SK, as well as a bag of dry weeds suspected to be Indian hemp. Investigations are ongoing.
The Delta State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to tackling kidnapping, violent crime, illegal arms proliferation, and drug abuse across the state.
CP Adesola urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, warning criminal elements that all forms of criminality would be met with decisive and lawful action. He also advised parents and guardians to closely monitor their wards and discourage them from engaging in crime.
