The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecroft has handed over 172 kilograms of seized cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Marine Command following a successful interception along the Ijegun Waterside axis. The handover took place on Monday, 1 December 2025.

The narcotics, packaged in four large bags, were recovered on 24 November 2025 during a swift operation by NNS Beecroft's Quick Response Team. Acting on credible intelligence, naval personnel intercepted a suspected van transporting the illegal substances, preventing the drugs from entering the public space.

Representing the Commander NNS Beecroft, Rear Admiral PP Nimmyel, the Executive Officer, Captain Idongesit Udoessien, reaffirmed the Navy’s dedication to combating illicit drug trafficking and other maritime crimes. He noted that the operation aligns with the strategic directives of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, aimed at enhancing national security across Nigeria’s coastal waters.

Captain Udoessien emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration, adding that the Nigerian Navy will continue to work closely with security partners to secure the maritime domain and safeguard lives and property. He also commended the professionalism of naval personnel and called on the public to support ongoing efforts to strengthen maritime security.

The seized drugs were officially handed over to the NDLEA’s Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Morrison Udo, who is expected to lead further investigations and ensure appropriate legal action.

The Nigerian Navy reiterated its commitment to maintaining a robust presence on the waterways and curbing criminal activities threatening national safety.
