The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) have announced a strengthened partnership aimed at improving the safety and quality of basic education across the country.
This followed a courtesy visit by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, to the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr Aisha Garba, on 1 December 2025 in Abuja.
During the visit, Air Marshal Aneke reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment to supporting national education security, describing education as the foundation of a safer and more secure Nigeria.
He emphasized the growing need for collaboration between security agencies and education authorities, particularly in the face of evolving threats targeting learning environments.
The CAS highlighted ongoing efforts within the Nigerian Air Force to strengthen teacher capacity, promote digital literacy, and upgrade infrastructure across its 33 schools nationwide—20 primary and 13 secondary—serving both military and civilian communities.
He noted that a closer partnership with UBEC would help expand these initiatives, especially through the deployment of modern safe-school technologies and enhanced learning systems.
Key areas of collaboration discussed include expanding facilities in NAF schools, joint teacher training programmes, integration with UBEC’s digital education platforms, and strengthened quality assurance systems.
Air Marshal Aneke also welcomed deeper cooperation under UBEC’s Safe School Programme to improve monitoring and protection, particularly in conflict-prone regions.
In her remarks, UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr Aisha Garba, commended the Nigerian Air Force for its contributions to national development beyond its core defence duties. She reiterated UBEC’s readiness to support the partnership, stressing that safety and education are inseparable pillars of national progress.
According to her, the Commission remains committed to sustained technical engagement that enhances school safety, improves learning outcomes, and builds resilience across Nigeria’s basic education system.
The renewed collaboration underscores the NAF’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s Safe School agenda and the broader Renewed Hope vision for inclusive, secure, and high-quality education.
Air Marshal Aneke affirmed that partnerships like this are essential to building a safer, smarter, and more prosperous Nigeria, where education and security work together to shape the nation’s future.
